Advanced Searching with Medline

Medline is a bibliographic database covering the fields of biomedical research and clinical sciences including medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, allied health and preclinical sciences. Medline’s citations and abstracts cover 5,000 medical journals published internationally. References are indexed using MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) from the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s controlled vocabulary.  Reviewing this guide prior to attending the course is recommended.

Course Objectives:
  • Develop search strategies
  • Map search terms to subject headings
  • Use the interface for different types of searches
  • Focus your results by limiting to different criteria
  • Manage your results and access articles

Prerequisite: Knowledge of basic computer skills

Target Audience:  All staff and students.
