In the early stages of chronic kidney disease, appropriate food choices and medication may be enough treatment to slow down the damage to the kidneys. The food choices and medication are also effective in controlling symptoms that appear with the disease. Some people may live without needing other forms of treatment. However, in some cases kidney function may decline to a rate of 10-15%. At this stage, the kidney can no longer filter blood on its own. Changes in diet, and use of medication may need to be supported for dialysis to be able to properly clean the blood in our body.
