What is a QR Code?

QR Code (Quick Response Code) is a black-and-white symbol that you can scan with your mobile device to reach a website to  get information.

You can easily scan QR codes using:

  •  The camera on your mobile device
  •  A QR Code Reader App on your mobile device.

How to scan QR codes using a new phone model

If you have a new phone model, you can scan QR codes using your phone camera:

  • Point your camera at the QR code, so the QR code is in the center of the screen

  • Your device will read the QR code and will show you a link that you can tap

  • Once you tap the link for this QR code:

  • ​​​​For iPhones, the document will open in a browser. You can add a bookmark or save it to your Favorites List, so you can read it later
     
  • For  Androids, you may be asked to download the PDF document. In this case:
    • Select “Yes”
    • Open a browser and select “Downloads” where you will see the document. Tap on the title to open..

How to scan QR codes using an older phone model

If you have an older Phone, you can still scan QR codes using a QR Code Reader app.

  • Connect to free UHN Guest Wi-Fi
  • Go to your App Store, download a QR Code Reader app to your device

  • Open the QR Code Rader app

  • Hold your device over a QR Code so that it’s clearly visible within your smartphone’s screen

  • Some QR Code readers will automatically scan the QR code.
  • On some QR Code readers, you have to press a button to snap a picture.
     
  • Your smartphone will read the code and navigate to the intended destination, which may take a few seconds.
