Export from Endnote library to an Excel Spreadsheet

Step 1) Download the Excel Style

  1. Download the file entitled, Excel Style 1 (below).
  2. Save it in the Style Folder in Endnote Application.

Step 2) Modify the references (OPTIONAL)

If there are references in your Endnote library with carriage returns (line breaks, paragraph marks, etc.) in the abstract, this export style may not handle them properly. To remove these, follow the steps below.

  1. Save a backup of your Endnote library, just in case.
  2. Select All references in your library from the Edit menu (or click Ctrl+A).
  3. In the Edit menu, launch Find and Replace.
    1. Select the Abstract field.
    2. In the Find box, click Insert Special and choose Carriage return.
    3. In the Replace With box,  type -//-
    4. Click Change. This may take a few minutes.

Step 3) Export the records into Excel

  1. Choose the style you just saved in the Style Manager in EndNote.
  2. Select reference. From the Edit menu, choose Copy Formatted (Ctrl+K).
  3. Open a blank workbook in Excel and paste (Ctrl+V) your saved references into the blank workbook.
  4. Insert column headings as desired.

Excel Style displays the following information in the Excel document in a Tab-Delimited format.
