Aspects of Citation Searching on Scopus

Scopus  UofT Icon – "cited by" option

• Over 18,000 journals indexed

• Coverage dates back to 1960s

• Contains book series, conference proceedings, and trade publications

Scopus   – cited by option caveats:

• Citation tracking only dates back to 1996

• Accurate citation counts only exist for articles published after 1996. Scopus is planning to add cited reference data for pre-1996 content.

• Cited reference resources may include errors (depends upon quality of bibliographies)

h-Index calculations will not be accurate for articles published prior to 1996
