SJHC e-Library: About Us

Library Interior

The George Pennal Library is located on the first floor of the Sunnyside Building, in the East Wing. Books and periodicals may be borrowed for two weeks, with the option for a 2 week renewal period. The photocopier may be used ONLY to photocopy George Pennal Library material. A single copy may be made for research purposes only - not for reproduction.

The George Pennal Library is:

  • A health sciences library (main collection is medical and nursing literature)
  • Affiliated with the University of Toronto Library
  • A member of the Health Sciences Information Consortium of Toronto.

Its purpose is to provide expert assistance and access to information to support:

  • Excellent patient care
  • Clinical teaching
  • Evidence-based practice
  • Research

Eligibility

All staff, physicians, residents, medical clerks and volunteers may use the library and are expected to comply with its rules. Students and community agencies can use all the library print and electronic resources within the following guidelines:

  • Use of the library during operating hours
  • No lending privileges
  • No photocopying
  • Orientation and assistance is provided by Colleges' teachers

Content & Services

Database and Internet training is available for individuals and small groups by appointment (ext. 6726). Materials not available at the George Pennal Library may be obtained from other libraries (some charges are applicable).

After Hours Access 

For access at other times, sign out a library key from security services (by the Emergency entrance) using your Health Centre ID badge.
