Open Access (OA)

Browser Extensions

When you find an article you want to access, but is restricted to paid access, the following browser extensions could help you find a publicly accessible version of the article. All of the following browser extensions are available for both Chrome and Firefox:

Open Access Button

Open access button is a browser extension that adds an icon to your browser. When you come across a paid access article, click on the Open Access Button browser icon and the extension will try to find a publicly available version of the article. If it does, it will open the article in another browser Window or Tab.

Chrome:

Firefox:

Unpaywall

Unpaywall is a browser extension which adds an icon to the right of your browser. When you are on the website of a paid access article, if the Unpaywall browser icon is green, it means that there is a publicly accessible version available. Then, by clicking on the green icon, the publicly accessible version of the article will be opened in another browser Window or Tab.

Chrome:

Firefox:

Endnote Click

Endnote Click is a browser extension that requires an Endnote Click account, which is free. After creating the account and logging in to the account through the extension, Endnote Click is ready to be used. When you are on the website of a paid access article, a purple icon that says "View PDF" will appear at the bottom; clicking on it will open a publicly accessible version of the article in another browser Window or Tab.
