Using Cite-o-Matic

Cite-o-Matic is the Mendeley equivalent to "Cite as You Write", where you insert citations and create a bibliography in a word processor document. Quickly and easily download the Cite-o-Matic MS Word plugin using Mendeley desktop by going to the Tools menu, clicking on "Install MS Word Plugin, and following the instructions.

Cite-o-Matic will be added to MS Word in the References tab.To add a citation to your document:

  • Place you cursor where the citation to appear
  • Click on the Insert Citation button
  • Search for the reference (or references) you want using the search box that pops up.
  • Select your references and click OK.

To insert a bibliography, place you cursor where the bibliography to appear and click on the Insert Bibliography button.

Choose the citation style you want to use with the Style drop-down menu - refresh the bibliography to see the change.
