What is Covid-19?

COVID-19 is a pneumonia of unknown cause detected in Wuhan, China and first reported to the WHO Country Office in China on 31 December 2019. The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020. It is caused by the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (also known as SARS-CoV-2 or 2019-nCoV). The WHO announced a name for the new coronavirus disease as COVID-19 on 11 February 2020. On 11 March 2020 the WHO characterized COVID-19 as a pandemic, the first pandemic caused by a coronavirus.
