Excel Intermediate - Learning Objective #7:

Creating detailed graphs and charts:

Skills and concepts covered:

Activities:

Create customized chart (in ClientDept worksheet):

  • Insert tab → charts section → insert column or bar graph → 3D Column
  • Chart tools → design tab → select data → Legend Entries → series values →  Add chart data range: highlight cells C18:C20 (series 1) → click OK → Under horizontal axis select "edit" → highlight cells: C22:C24 (horizontal axis labels) → OK
  • Chart Tools → design tabadd chart elementChart titleAbove Chart  → Clients Served Per Department 
  • Chart Tools → design tabadd chart element Axis titlesPrimary horizontal axis titlesNumber of Employees
  • Chart Tools → design tabadd chart elementAxis titlesPrimary vertical axis titleNumber of Clients Served 
  • Double click on first cylinder → Right click for options → Change fill colour of cylinder to purple (or any other colour)
  • Double click on second cylinder → Right click for options → Change fill colour of cylinder to green (or any other colour) 
  • Double click on third cylinder → Right click for options → Change fill colour of cylinder to orange (or any other colour)
  • Chart Tools → Format tabinsert shapesText box → insert 3 boxes for department names (ICU, ER, OR) → move to centre of cylinders → right click to bold text
